Why I created this Blog…

Well, I wouldn’t call myself a disgruntled DJ or anything like that; but after years of DJ’ing, I felt like I have something to say. Not in a bad way, but I felt the need to step back and write down what I’ve learned and experienced as a working DJ. I get tons of questions about being a DJ, and specifically questions about being a female DJ. I hope this blog will inspire, answer questions, solve problems, and create a beautiful community of DJs and music people alike.

I had very limited female DJ interactions on my journey. Most of the few that I knew of, were either extremely popular and out of my league or it felt more like a competition than us trying to work together. I found it hard to find female DJ friends that could show me the ropes and spar with me on music. That’s not to say there were none; my girl DJ Jahkova in Los Angeles, I will forever have love for her. Besides her, luckily I did have several male DJ and Producer friends who gave me advice and showed me the ropes. I cherish those guys for their roll in my DJ journey because I learned a lot. But it’s kinda like wishing you had an older sister to mentor you instead of an older brother during those times that he just can’t quite relate. Well, this blog is here for that. DJGURL.com can be your “sister-DJ-mentor” in those times of need.

I intend to shed light on all the things that have and have not worked for me over the years. I am also, looking to build a community of music creators so that we can all help each other. And just to be clear, this blog will, in no way shame men or hate against men. Matter fact, I want this blog to be welcoming to men so they too can gain and share insight and perspective on working with female DJs and music creators.

Please don’t hesitate to write me with questions or topics you’d like me to discuss. Until next time, DJ GUrL out!
