Transporting DJ equipment can be discouraging for many new DJs. It’s no lie that dealing with DJ equipment is not easy, and help is always appreciated. However, it is possible to make this part of the job painless without requiring much outside help if any.
Transporting DJ equipment involves being able to lift your equipment, setting-up and breaking-down your equipment at events, having a big enough vehicle that your equipment can fit in, and having a safe convenient place for you to store your DJ equipment.
I’ve come a loooong way
from the time I first started doing mobile DJ gigs. I had to learn from trial and error, but I can now say that I have a great system that hopefully will help you too.
When I go on gigs there are some basic pieces of equipment that I always take with me. This includes my DJ console (my DJ controller or turntables in protective casing), a table, wires/cables and small accessories, a table cloth, speakers, speaker stands, and my backpack which holds my laptop, headphones, snacks, and other small necessities. I also make sure I have space for my DJ cart (dolly) in my car too.
I’m all about condensing things as much as possible. Besides the items I’ve listed above everything else is optional. Whatever I don’t really need for the gig I take it out of my bags to prevent having to carry around excess dead weight.Â
Other items I may bring with me include lighting, a DJ facade, a chair, etc. Some gigs ask for these items so I have to make sure I have extra space for these things in the car as well.
Before you buy a piece of equipment you must always take into account the size and weight of it. This includes the speakers you buy and the size of your DJ console. The goal is that you are able to lift all of your equipment on your own without needing assistance. You also want it to all fit into your car. I go further into detail on this topic in my Youtube video posted below.
